Easter at Borgo Egnazia
The light changes, the air becomes lighter, and the earth welcomes the arrival of the new season.
Amid outdoor days, the first lunches under the sun, and moments to share together, Easter at Borgo Egnazia becomes an opportunity to take time for oneself and loved ones, or to rediscover a renewed sense of balance.
A time to live intensely, made of simple gestures and flavours,
landscapes to be discovered under a different light,
and rituals steeped in traditions that are continuously renewed.
The Canto all’Uovo - A Tradition Still Alive
At the stroke of midnight on Holy Saturday, small groups of people of all ages walk through the narrow streets of Fasano, accompanied by the sound of accordions, guitars, and tambourines, bringing to life one of the most cherished rituals of the local Easter tradition.
It’s the Cantata all’Uovo: they stop in front of a house, sing until the door opens, and in return, they receive fresh eggs as a gift, symbols of rebirth and continuity.
Just as it did in the past, this tradition is a precious opportunity to reconnect with one’s roots and the community: Borgo Egnazia’s guests will have the chance to experience it firsthand, immersing themselves in a history that is still alive and deeply felt.
The Table Outdoors
Dining outdoors is one of the most eagerly anticipated pleasures of Easter, especially on Easter Monday. It’s a simple desire: to be together under the warm sun, with the clinking of glasses, shared laughter, and the aroma of the firepit lingering in the air.
Easter lunch comes to life in La Piazza del Borgo, where the flavours of tradition meet a convivial, festive atmosphere. The Piazza becomes the place to celebrate the holidays together, with families gathering around the table to share the season’s traditional dishes.
On Easter Monday, La Pasquetta finds its natural rhythm at Cala Masciola: the scent of the sea, the ease of a day spent outdoors, an informal lunch, and the soft notes of a DJ set—blue skies overhead, the waves just a few steps away.
EASTER FOR KIDS
The Easter experience for our younger guests is an ongoing journey of discovery and fun, with a wide range of activities designed to stimulate curiosity and creativity in every child.
There’s fun to be had decorating Easter eggs and preparing typical local dishes, while the more adventurous can engage in sports tournaments and various challenges.
But there’s one special experience that takes place across the natural landscapes of Borgo Egnazia, gaining particular significance. Over the course of several days, both young and older guests will be involved in a nature-based treasure hunt, full of clues, care, and actions tied to the land and its rhythms. Each stop adds another piece: guided by curiosity and the pace of the season, the wait slowly transforms into discovery.
A shared game that becomes an experience, capable of uniting imagination, a bond with the earth, and the joy of living the Easter season together.
A toast in La Cantina
La Cantina is an enological archive that tells the story of wine and its origins, both near and far, where every bottle becomes a memory and a quest. This intimate and welcoming space, where each glass is not merely a pleasure to taste but a keeper of stories and traditions, is the perfect setting to celebrate the tradition of the “Cena di Magro”, the lean dinner.
The menu in the lead-up to the festive days honours the fresh catch of the day and seasonal ingredients, enriched with pairings of the finest wines to create a perfect balance of flavours. Each dish, designed to highlight every part of the fish, is complemented by wines that tell stories of distant lands, but also of passion, care, and attention to detail.
La Cantina is not just a collection of bottles, but a place where wine becomes an integral part of the festive days, enriching them with intense aromas and flavours.
TRADITIONAL COOKING
In Puglia, food is much more than a daily ritual: it is shared memory, a language made of scents, textures, and gestures passed down through generations. Every dough, every oven fired up, tells a story of family, waiting, and togetherness.
The Scarcella is the Easter sweet that tastes like home. A simple biscuit, shaped into different forms according to tradition – a little rabbit, a dove, or a small bag – decorated with colourful sugar sprinkles and completed with a whole boiled egg, symbolising rebirth and good fortune.
Alongside it, the tarallo ngileppato holds an ancient secret: the fragrance of olive oil dough meets the sweetness of sugar glaze, creating a balance that speaks of patience, craftsmanship, and simplicity. It’s a sweet made by grandmothers, evoking distant memories and repeated gestures through time.
At Borgo Egnazia, these traditions come to life in cooking lessons, where the recipes of the past are shared and passed down by the skilled hands of those who have kept them alive for generations.
EXPLORING PUGLIA
It is the alternative routes that truly tell the story of this land.
The roads that don’t follow a precise path, that change direction unexpectedly, inviting you to see things from a different perspective. Routes to be discovered without haste, mentally noted as promises of travel.
By bicycle or in a vintage car, you pass dry stone walls and endless olive groves, silent witnesses of ancient stories. Then you stop, with no plan: for an impromptu lunch in a Masseria, inside a trullo, or on a meadow. And you realise that the true gift is the time dedicated to what brings you joy.
All experiences outside of Borgo Egnazia are curated by Indigenus, which offers itineraries and activities designed to connect with the genuine soul of this land and tell the story of Puglia through an intimate, essential, deeply local lens.
FLOWER HUNT WITH THE ASSOCIAZIONE CLARA

Thanks to the collaboration with CLARA, an association dedicated to preserving and passing on Puglian traditions, guests will learn how to transform wildflowers into delicate works of art, rediscovering the charm of traditional craftsmanship.
Both adults and children will also have the chance to take part in a real-life “Flower Hunt”, a journey from Borgo Egnazia to the Trulli of Clara, nestled in the countryside of Alberobello. Along the way, guests will uncover the scents, uses, and benefits of wildflowers and plants in their natural habitat.
This immersive experience unfolds among poppies, chamomiles, mallow, and many other floral varieties, exploring the countryside aboard vintage cars, while soaking in the breathtaking landscapes that stretch beyond the window.
